There's a version of every trip where you're always in motion and never anywhere: airports, lines, a phone full of photos you don't remember taking. And there's the other version: a slow morning in a place that's stopped being a postcard, an afternoon with nowhere you need to be, a country going about its ordinary Tuesday around you. The second version doesn't happen by accident. Somebody has to build it.

Wonderlust Express builds that version: a handful of trips a season, one person accountable for each, start to finish. The itineraries lean on trains because a train hands you back the hours a plane burns: a long lunch, a conversation that goes somewhere. And where a plane or a rented car serves the trip better, that's what goes in the plan. The rest is the quiet knowledge that makes a place easy: where the good is hiding, what the ticket ought to cost, who to call at nine at night when something slips. None of it is secret. It simply isn't anybody's job. Here, it is the whole job.

It started when Doug took his daughter across the country by train. On a plane, she'd have spent those hours on her phone. On the train, they played a board game for an afternoon, and the slowness wasn't a compromise. It was the point. Every trip here is still built to that standard: as though someone we love is the one carrying it.
